Final Word

As I and the 1200 others who took part in IM melted back into the real world - I thought to myself 'this really isn't such a big deal'. But it is. It has really dominated my lifestyle for at least the last 13 weeks. The 13 weeks of truth. I gave it all in my dedication to training and I certainly gave it all on the day. But I must say - like the TdF - it is actually a team effort. My team of family and friends who supported me were invaluable. Thanks to you all. My lovely, very patient and understanding wife Lisa who has made my life so much easier for me over the last three months and my 4 great daughters who I haven't seen enough of - are all part of Team Dunstan. Lisa has been awesome. I hope she understands I have to do this again! My folks who came down to support me on - Happy Birthday Mum - sorry Sat was all about me! Also, all my mates at RW who always ask hows training going and take an interest in what I'm doing. Too many to mention. Weatherman Butch, legend. Thanks guys. And of course Phab Phil and the RW folk who keep me and my bike going. Specifically though - The Rat - aka Paul who would not let me slow down on the day when it was almost overwhelming and hurt so much and for his and PJ's massive ongoing support throughout the months. Always encouraging me and revving me up an listening to my dribble - thanks heaps.

I was in the best shape of my life - at 41 years old. I was prepared for a big day. I finished in 181st position. Which I am fairly proud of on reflection. But - I know I can go faster! I know I can put together a better Ironman triathlon - all 3 legs. So I'll be back. Not next year though...
