7th September

My blog for the last 13 weeks of Ironman WA training program and random thoughts along the way.

Inside of 13 weeks now. It's all business from here. No key sessions to be missed!

Last night was a scheduled swim after work. I got stuck at the office a bit later than ideal and then got dumped on by a big shower of rain on the way back to my car. Was soaked through. Sat in my car and had to decide - swim or go home. The traffic was bad and I could of just kept going home. I opened a can of toughen up and went to the pool. Still raining. Cold and a bit of wind. Took my wet clothes off and pulled on the budgie smugglers and headed out to the pool deck. Not too many people around, maybe 2-3 per lane plus one lane of squad swimmers. The plan was 3k. It looked tough ask at that point. Well I took it 500m at a time. The attendants didn't put the lights on until late and it was dark and not very inviting. By 1500m, the pool was nearly deserted. By 2000m I was the only one left!. I thought that was a fair enough effort given the weather and the circumstances. But decided to HTFU and kept going. Did two more 500's and finished the session in 56min at an average of 18:45 per km. Felt really good afterwards. Had to hurry as the pool closed in another few minutes and the staff wanted to go home (they were already hosing down the change rooms!) Got home in time to read one story to the kids before bed. Was starving hungry too. Glad I did it.
