9/11

Quick update for my week since last Mondays swim. Today is 8 years since the world changed in 2001. Wow. Time flies. 8 years ago I could not of imagined training for triathlon, let alone my 2nd IM. I weighed about 14-15kgs more than today and had no inclination to swim, ride & run!

Had a couple of good sessions this week, even though it was mostly wet. I am really sick of the fronts that keep coming through back to back this winter. Sick of cleaning my bike and drying my shoes etc. I am really looking fwd to spring proper...

Had to re-calibrate my Polar footpod again after Tuesday's interval session. I ran on this accurate 500m marked course down on Terrace Rd 4 times and instead of 2000m my watch said 2110m. Over-stating the distance and therefore speed by 5.5%. Not happy. Everytime I have checked the calibration it has been 'out'. Anyway, did 3 x 1mile efforts at Zone 4 pace (4:00-4:15) and felt pretty good.

Wed was bike intervals and brick run, so I rode in via Swanborne and Claremont for 27k and then did a short run from the office. Pulled up a tad sore Wed night/Thu morning. Not sure what was related to my sports massage and what was due to the training. Had to rush home to get to Lily's Pre-Primary Fathers Day night at school. I basically rode home flat out, jumped in a shower and back out the door. Lily was real excited and so proud to have her Dad come along to school. We played some games, did some painting and had some food. Then all the kids sang 3 songs to us Dads. Very cool. What was really funny was reading about what all the 5 year olds had said about their dads. Seems a lot of dads like drinking beer and watching footy! Apparently wearing glasses makes me look smarter and I should shave more often! haha.

Anyway, Thu morning was my long run and I woke up a bit sore. Came good after a few kays and managed a solid 1:44hrs and about 21k. As usual, included some Z3 efforts (2 x 15min) and finished with half an hour at Z2. Was a bit rooted all day at work, but so damn busy I didn't really have time to feel sorry for myself.

We are all off to Rotto tomorrow. Weather looks pretty average for most of the week too. Will sneak a quick ride in tomorrow morning early, hopefully ~4 hrs. Lisa is so very understanding of my training and is always helping me out by working around some of my key sessions. She will be running around like a headless chook tomorrow morning and I will be 'enjoying myself' on the bike in the wind and the rain! Can't wait for a 9 day break with the family. This will be my mid-season break before I get into the last 11 weeks of training.
