7 to go

Week 5 of my race prep period is over. 7 to go. I was pretty happy with how the week went. Hit all the targets. Swim 7.0/ride 275/run 59k for a total of 15:30hrs

I rode up to Yanchep again today. It's an 88km round trip. I had a 3 hour ride scheduled, followed by a 30min brick run. So I got up nice and early (445am) and was on the road at 517am. The hot weather of yesterday had disappeared over night and had been replaced with a cold front. That was good - except for the strong NW'er blowing. So I headed into and up Marmion Ave. The legs took a while to start working and I could feel the residual fatigue in them from yesterday. But I put my head down and tried the ABP approach (Always Be Pushing) after about 30min. It was slow going and much harder than yesterday. But it was good to be out at 1st light. Anyway, to cut a long story short I got to Yanchep in about 1:33hrs (avg 28.3) and boy did it feel good to turn around. I instantly picked up the pace a heap and hurtled myself back down the road. I spent large amounts of time at 45-50km/h. It was a LOT of fun! I got home in 1:08hrs - a massive negative split of 25min. By the time I pulled into the driveway, my avg speed for the trip had jumped up to 32.7 - which means the return trip was done at 38.8km !!!

Next weekend is my BTW - Big Tri Week. Where I a do a heap of kays! I am sort of looking forward to it, but also can feel how tired my legs and neck and shoulders will be!
