Day off - family day

Well today was a complete rest day from training. They don't happen very often so I tried to make sure I used it wisely - so I spent half the day on a family outing. We piled into the car and headed up to Mundaring Weir and surrounds for a captain cook & picnic. It was a pretty good trip. The kids mostly behaved & despite the wintry weather we all enjoyed it. I feel like I know some of those roads very well - after riding there quite a few times now and also running (King of the Mountain) I have had plenty of time to see every detail and point of interest - as least on the uphill sections!

Well, this morning before we left, I was able to see Craig Alexander win his 2nd Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, on the net. He defended his crown and came from 12min down at the start of the marathon to win by over 2 min. It was a great performance from a true Aussie champion! Macca held on for fourth. Pete Jacobs. had a great race to finish 8th. Wellington won the womens race by a massive margin (again) this time over Melinda Carfrae from Australia who blitzed the run in a brilliant 2:56!

It felt so weird not training this morning. I felt guilty all day! It kind of feels a bit like taper. I feel a bit ordinary as my body wonders why I am not punishing it and I feel like a slacker for doing nothing! Well the next 3 weeks should sort me out. I am so glad sunrise is getting nice and early - 5:41tomorrow. I'll be able to swim at the beach before work real soon...
