This week was a good week for training - in that I hit 11 from 11 planned sessions anyway... 15:24hrs - made up of 6.7/260/61km of swim/ride/run. 5 runs, 3 swims and 3 rides. I don't think I have had a bigger week of running since 1985! Back then I weighed 10kg less and went to school without another worry in the world!
I am looking forward to an easy/recovery week this next week. I re-test my swim 1k TT (which I know has improved since last time) and my run 5k TT. I also get a whole day off on Sunday! I think I reduce my hours by about a third. I think Lisa is starting to get jack of all the training and how I am pretty tired periodically too. Hopefully I can earn some SAU's or at least break even this week! (SAU = Spousal Approval Units) Without her support of my endeavours, it would be very hard to do what I do. I probably need to tell her how much I appreciate her efforts more often I guess. And try and keep my tiredness to myself more! Luckily, after this easy week, there is really only 6 more hard weeks plus taper. Which is a bit scary really for me!
Yesterday I really toasted my legs. The target of 4hr ride & 30min brick run was achieved with some effort. I rode down to Baldivis (the old end of the Fwy bike path) into a solid headwind in 1:58hrs for the 58km trip. Bought a drink had a quick pit stop and headed back. Instead of sitting on 32-34 I was sitting on 40-42km/h on the way home. Gotta love a tailwind! So I increased my avg speed from 29.9 to 32 on the way home. It was going to be such a big -ve split, that I pulled in to Ozzy Pk and did a few circuits (7k) to chew up a bit more time! I was ABP (Always Be Pushing) and did 4 x 15min hard with 3' easy and then 3 x 20' hard, with 5' rest. That pretty much nailed me. Then I got off and did a 30min brick run. The run was hard, but it actually did get easier after about 4k. It was getting warm too. I had a late start (due to Lily turning 6 and having the present thing in the morning). So had a bit of a sleep in too.
So today was a 3hr ride. But I had no real power in my legs and just managed 93k @ 30.5 km/h.
Today the mighty Eels - Parramatta RL club are playing in the NRL GF. The team I followed as a kid growing up in NSW (when they where dominant in the early 80's) gets a chance at premiership glory. Hope they win, as it has been a long time between drinks - Sterlo was the halfback then and they won 3 or 4 premierships. Go the Eels!!!
